Mounting Medical Devices – Tip Sheet
4/21/26
Benefits and Key Criteria
Mounting medical devices is crucial for safe and efficient EMS transport. In the event of sudden braking or a crash, medical devices become very dangerous projectiles for both the patient and for EMS providers. Proper mounting not only enhances safety but also optimizes workflows, allowing EMS providers to focus on what matters most, patient care.
Benefits of Mounting your Medical Devices
• Safety for patients and crews
• Equipment remains with the patient at all times
• Constant real time monitoring
• Dedicated location for devices, leading to faster reaction time
• Less equipment damage
• Improved workspace ergonomics
How to Choose the Right Mounting Systems
What our Clinical Director, Éric Hamel, suggests:
- Safety – SAE J3043 certification
- Flexibility – Can be installed on stretchers, counters and walls
- Ease of use – Allows quick installation and removal of both the device and its bracket from the base
- Rotation – 360° controlled rotation for optimal screen visibility
- Universality – Brackets equipped with a standardized disc to ensure cross-compatibility
- Accessibility – Enables the stretcher arm system to be lowered when needed, providing unobstructed access to the patient
What is SAE J3043 ?
SAE Recommended Practice describes the dynamic and static testing procedures required to evaluate the integrity of an equipment mount device or system when exposed to a frontal or side impact (i.e., a crash impact) (SAE International, 2026). This standard sets the industry’s highest safety requirements, requiring resistance to 26 G forces.
